From the Couch

This is how I amuse myself when the day gets quiet. Be forewarned: that often includes whimsy, hedgehogs and other animals, cookery, children's books, pining after frivolous objects, pop culture and puns.
Generally, by the time you are real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.

“The Velveteen Rabbit” by Margery Williams (via julie911)

I can’t reread The Velveteen Rabbit because it made it on my list of Things that Made Me Cry Once that I Can Never Revisit (along with Of Mice and Men and Bambi, among others), but hearing this quote again while watching Beginners warmed my heart. And made me cry. Again.
